This is one of three banners I created using punch needle embroidery. For this one I also used two pieces of my grandmother’s tatting I still have. I love having her tatting. I’ve never met anyone else who could tat so these pieces are really special to me. At the end of July I got to participate in one of At the end of July I got to participate in one of my favorite parts of my job - art camp! Last year we added a teen art camp that takes students between 8th-12th grade and it was a big success again this year! I love how focused these kids can be with their projects. I got to do a punch needle project with them and they amazed me with their pieces! They all came up with their own designs and I was so impressed with the creativity (check out Evie’s cute duck!). Some of these kids have been in camp since they were tiny little people. I feel so proud to see the artists they’ve become🥹 #artcamp #handmade #punchneedle #teenart #fiberarts
I got a beautiful new tattoo by @rachael.ellzey th I got a beautiful new tattoo by @rachael.ellzey the other day. I love it so much!! My grandmother was a big fan of hummingbirds and she always kept feeders by the kitchen windows for them. For the first time since I moved into my house 3 years ago, I saw one in my yard last week. These hummingbird light pulls used to hang on the ceiling fan in her living room. After she died my Uncle Brooksy took the and put them on the ceiling fan in his living room. After he died, I went to his house one last time before my family sold it. The house was totally emptied of his belongings but these two little birds were still on the fan, so of course I took them. Now they’re on the fan in my room🙂

Here are all the fun bags I’ve crocheted this year. 1. 🫜The ugly strawberry that my dad calls a radish, so I guess it’s an ugly radish. It was my first attempt at fruit bag. 2. 🍊The orange bag!! I really loved this one!! It’s so so cute but so tiny. But I still love it! 3. 🍓The strawberry bonbon bag! Yeah that’s what those little candies in the foil strawberry wrapper are actually called. This was my first attempt at changing colors as I crocheted and it was a great learning experience. Check out the cute matching fabric bag liner. 4. ☀️Sunburst Granny Square bag! I love how this one turned out, although I wish I had made it a little bigger. I like the adjustable cotton strap better than crocheting a strap because it doesn’t stretch out. The students from Oak Mountain Middle returned for another fun printmaking and bronze casting workshop with me and @griceart (although I didn’t get any pictures of the finished bronze pieces😭 they were so cool!). I’m so grateful for teachers like Mrs. Tolbert who expose their kids to a variety of art forms. Everyone I do one of these workshops, it inspires me to get back in the studio🙂 A big thanks to Greg, Lena, and the amazing Meg @meg.atron.04 for all the help! I love collecting vintage Santa mugs and I love how these guys turned out. It took me 2 months to make this, then I crammed i It took me 2 months to make this, then I crammed it into my suitcase (it took up like 1/3 of it) and dragged it all the way to Vermont in hopes of taking some beautiful pictures with it in front of some beautiful fall trees. And then Vermont was like 80 degrees the whole time. Maybe when Alabama cools down, in like February, I’ll be able to wear it. For now my solo fashion shoot at home will have to do. I made this for my mom’s birthday over the summer. I made this for my mom’s birthday over the summer. I used strips of fabric from shirts that belonged to my mom’s parents, and jeans that were from her brother (who have all passed away in recent years). “Repeat after me..” won ✨Best of Show✨ at the Meri “Repeat after me..” won ✨Best of Show✨ at the Meridian Museum of Art’s 51st Annual Bi-State Art Exhibit. I felt honored just to have two of my pieces selected to be in the show, but to win best of show…I’m blown away. I’m holding the award and I still can’t believe it😂 There were so many incredible works in this show and I’m glad I got to see them in person and talk to some of the artists! I wish I would have taken more photos, but I took pics of two pieces I really liked- a relief print by Jill Hammers and a mixed media piece by Barbara-Ann Hunt. The art camp kids never cease to amaze me!! Someti The art camp kids never cease to amaze me!! Sometimes I’m afraid kids won’t like punch needle because it can be a little tricky to master at first, but these kids took to it like fish to water! So proud of them🥹 Even Lucas and Lynn got in on the fun! I wish I had taken pictures of everyone’s projects because they all did such a good job. It was such a fun week and I’m so happy I got to do a few projects with the kids.
